On November 6, 2006, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the Roseburg and Medford BLM Districts acted illegally in its attempts to log more old-growth in the Cow Creek watershed, near Riddle and Glendale because BLM failed to protect rare species. About the same time, courts ruled that the agenies were illegally taking Spotted Owls, and all old growth timber sales came to a halt. Sales like Cow Catcher Green Thunder, Dickerson Heights, Myrtle Morgan, Screen Pass, Brown Elk and Pleasant Yankee stopped. Thanks to all of you who wrote comments and worked to protect our old-growth forests!
On July 7, 2008, the Roseburg BLM again proposed clearcutting in old growth forests with a brand new proposal, the South Umpqua River Harvest Plan, which would clearcut forests near the town of Days Creek.
